Excerpts from Gold Bug Pro Field Test by Pieter Heydelaar:

"I have been using the Pro for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I tested it against other VLF machines that I own and found that when comparing signals from small flakes of gold using the 5 inch searchcoil, it is on par with the Gold Bug 2 using a 6 inch coil. I got the same response when comparing the Gold Bug Pro with an 11 inch coil versus the Fisher Gold Bug 2 with a 10 inch. However, there was quite a bit of difference on deeper targets. I buried a flat 1+ gram piece of gold about 5 inches deep and the Pro had about a 2 inch advantage, probably due to the lower khz advantage.

The Pro is a joy to use, lightweight, and when groundbalanced properly it is very stable and quiet. The segment discriminator saves a lot of digging-- when I get a signal in All Metal mode I just glance at the target IC arc and that tells me whether it is ferrous or nonferrous. It's true that small flakes of gold can sometimes read low on the scale (the segments jump around) so tiny signals should be dug as well as deep targets, but all those shallow nails and other trash are easily identified.

Most hotrocks give a "boing" overshoot signal; positive hot rocks give a more nugget-like response, which is not a problem for experienced detectorists. But it may help the novice identifying them by the fact that hotrocks do not read on the arc except for very powerful ones, and then you have to almost touch them with the coil, then you might get a reading at the very end of the scale (100).

The Gold Bug Pro is very good for sniping on riverbanks in gold country and on exposed bedrock in hydraulic diggings with the 5 inch coil.

The Fisher F75 detector goes a bit deeper than the Pro, but it does cost more. I would rather use the Pro because it is lighter and so I can cover more ground. And when looking for new patches, finds are initially partially shallow anyway."
