Amethyst is a purple variety of crystalline quartz with a hardness of 7. Once a precious stone, the discovery of large deposits in Brazil has reduced its value to semiprecious. Amethyst's principal virtue during the Middles Ages was to protect the wearer against drunkenness from either liquor or love, and to induce clear thinking. Amethyst is good for beads or tumbling. Approx 15-20 pieces per pound, small pieces 1/2" to 3/4" size. Sold in 2 pound increments. Use drop down menu to specify the number of pounds you wish to purchase.
DID YOU KNOW: During the same time in the ancient past when amethyst was thought to prevent drunkenness, turquoise was believed to ward off injury from falls, and bloodstone was thought to neutralize poison.
